6th Grade Color Study

6th grade students mixed primary, secondary, and intermediate colors and cut them out to create designs.  They placed the colors in a labeled color wheel and learned about the color schemes.

8th Grade Pop Art Characters

8th graders painted characters that emulate the styles of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

8th Grade Cardboard Shoes

8th graders created life size shoes out of recycled cardboard boxes and paint.

8th Grade Still Life Games

Instead of 8th graders painting a bunch of boring vases, fruits, and flowers, I put board games out on the tables.  They painted the games while they closely observed the details.

8th Grade Henna Hands

8th Graders used paint to create images of henna design.

8th Grade Robert Indiana Prints

8th graders created typography prints with paint, paper, and cardboard.  Inspired by artist Robert Indiana.

8th Grade Cassone Project

8th graders learned about Italian Cassones (hope chests) and create their own miniature versions.  They used collage and assemblage elements.

8th Grade Color Study Booklet

8th graders created booklets with various color schemes and combinations to learn the spectrum.  The cover of the booklets included a non-objective design using a color scheme.

8th Grade Rolled Paper Sculpture

8th graders cut strips of paper, roll them up and glue them to a base to create a sculptural design.

8th Grade Surrealism Watercolor

Based on the work of Magritte, 8th graders create a watercolor painting that emulates the dream like quality of Surrealism artwork.

8th Grade Chimera

8th graders combine several animals into one and create a painting.  These Chimera creatures are based on Greek Mythology.

8th Grade Pop Art Prints

8th graders create a print with foam and cardboard, dip the print in tempera paint, and press on colored squares to emulate the style of Andy Warhol.

8th Grade Aboriginal Art

This is typically an elementary project, but I wanted to see how far 8th graders would take it and see how detailed it would get.  They turned out pretty well.  They used unsharpened pencils dipped in paint to make dots on colored paper.
